I have officially been caught by my big toe and right about now the water is lapping my shoulders, I get to choose whether or not I give in and be pulled completely under and submit to drowning or I can take a deep breath and fight with all I've got to not just stay above the water but to maybe put my arms up and ask for help.
My intention with this particular blog post was to have a raging, venting sook about how 2016 is shitty and hard and hurting me. About everything/one that is irritating the shit out of me, all their stupidity that I find unacceptable.
Instead, I've changed my mind and decided instead to remind myself of all the things in my day to day life that no matter what, make me feel good/happy inside.
* My mornings are generally started with a fart... By me or my chap, I'm not fussy. It's like our bodies have been stockpiling through the night and when we stretch as we wake out comes long, rumbling farts. They're always worth a giggle. Even better when the birthday thief hears and reacts. "Mumma, mumma you farty?" followed by loud laughter.
* Whilst we're on the topic of my daughter, I'm a big fan of her night time chatter. When my girl goes to bed she'll say "Night, luffchu. See you morning" to which I reply "Goodnight, I love you. I'll see you in the morning."
This is always followed by the birthday thief talking with her toys (she's got a mountain she sleeps with and she knows when one is missing) and singing to them. Maybe some calling out.
* The Slayer greets me every single morning with "Oh Mum, I missed you so much." Actually, for the moment that seems to be his stock greeting. If I pop to the shops, he's at the door missing me on my return. When I collect him from daycare, he runs at me with his greeting. He's a passionate four year old.
* Daily achievements... whether it be someone has written their name all by themselves or a poop has been delivered to the potty, or something awesome has been found on reddit (not child related but still an achievement) the excitement and enthusiasm of the achiever is always contagious. We live in a house of high fives, hugs and fist bumps.
* The Superhero gets super excited to tell me about his passions; comic books, Marvel, DC, books, movies, youtube clips... His whole body becomes animated and he has voices and all.
* One of my most exciting parts of the day is when I refresh my podcast app and discover new episodes to listen to. I listen to my stories whilst I cook, clean, shower, laze in bed at the end of the day. I have comedy podcasts and history, science, storytelling - whatever I'm in the mood for I have a podcast for that!
* The lounge lay... At some point during the day I will lay on the lounge and there is always a lil child ready to climb up and snuggle on my chest and have a chat. They're always quiet whispers, they rarely are about anything in particular but it feels good to feel so loved.
* For all my rants about facebook I do love logging in and seeing my friends sharing their own lives with me. I keep up to date with everyone without feeling like I'm neglecting them. Life is so busy at times that I don't always spend as much time with everyone as I would like but I feel like with the power of that social network I'm still giving the love and receiving it too.
* Seeing him smile... Some days I want to (and sometimes do) scream at him for being a shit head. He absolutely frustrates the fuck out of me but guaranteed every single day he finds something to make him smile and it's beautiful. My chap is all kinds of complicated but when he smiles at me and laughs it makes me feel good inside (even if the thing that's made him smile is something that grosses me out).
