Well, local elections have just been and gone and I know that you're not supposed to discuss religion or politics but fuck it... Let's talk pollys!
I'm quite passionate about government and politics and voting. I get incredibly annoyed by the people who bitch about having to vote and having no clue who to vote for. I'm also annoyed by the people who decide to vote for smaller parties based on their name 'The Sex Party' but without fully understanding that all these smaller parties are piggy backed by the larger ones. The votes have to go somewhere. Oh, and whilst we're discussing annoyances I really can't stand the whingers who don't educate themselves on the parties but feel they can sook when someone gets in they don't like. Tiresome. Wait, wait... The ones that say but the Liberal Party didn't win, true that but who are the Liberal Party aligned with that gave them those votes???
I hate that voting in Australia is compulsory, I really do believe it should be a choice that way the people's vote counts more. The people who want their government to be the strongest will have a say.
Recently I listened to a podcast with Wil Anderson discussing voting and the advertising bullshit that costs us a ridiculous amount of money promoting parties that don't follow through with their promises or similar smash into their opposition. He believed it should be banned. Imagine that? Imagine if instead of that money being wasted on bullshit we sank it back into our own country? Imagine if we used all that money to fund Indigenous communities rather than terminating their existence? All those leaflets that we have shoved into our hands at the polling places that simply get thrown away, imagine if those dollars were put into low income housing or even better refuges.
I often imagine if I had my own party, what would I stand for?
'The Australian Modified Single Mumma's Party' (or some such inventive title) would be about Domestic Violence Awareness - building confidence so we don't stay any longer than the first assault (verbal or physical), it would be about education, child care and housing for those with single incomes and low incomes and a huge focus on mental illness and awareness, it would be about giving the majority of Australia a say in how our country is run. It would promote the multicultural existence of our country, an education in our diversity with the hopes of removing ignorance and racism. It would say 'Hey, Mum. Good job, how can we make life a tiny bit easier on you?' It would say, 'You're gay. So what?' and move along to those who are really struggling. Why do we have to fight for equality when it should be a given? Why should we spend all our time focusing on what love is when we could spend that time rehousing abused children. There is not one human on this Earth that is better than another but our current government seems to think this is incorrect.
Imagine if we took the time to properly educate ourselves on marijuana (do you know it's so much more than a drug?). We'd provide a legal medicinal alternative, generate employment (think about what it takes to cultivate, maintain, dispense to the different places who can then turn it into clothing, materials, medicine and of course that gorgeous dried substance) not to mention boosting our economy.
Churches would be restricted and an attempt (there will be chaos) to enforce taxes. Why should something I do not believe in be void of that privilege? Think about it. Religion is a big business, a big money making venture so why shouldn't they have to contribute the same way a small business does? How does it differ from the local magic shop?
I would never be accepted into politics... I'm heavily tattooed and pierced. My family is fractured. I don't believe in god. I just would never fit in.
